Battling the Summer Heat

The summer heat is upon us and we here at Walkabout want you to not only enjoy yourself out here but take care of yourself.  When you are out on the golf course do not under-estimate the heat and please be sure to take the necessary precautions while playing.  Below are a few tips for beating the heat:

  1. Drink, Drink, Drink.  Make sure to consume lots of water.  It is recommended to drink at least 4 cups of water per hour while you are on the golf course
  2. Beer WILL NOT help you.  As good as a cold beer is on a hot day it does your body no good.  For every beer you consume you need to drink an extra 12 oz. of water.
  3. Shade when possible.  When you pull up to a tee box or park on the cart path by the green try and park in the shade to keep your cart as cool as possible.  The cooler your cart the cooler your body temperature.
  4. COLD TOWEL.  Bring in a kitchen towel from home, get in wet and store it in your cooler.  Every few holes pull it out and cool your head and neck down.  This can help drop your body temperature throughout the round.
  5. Protect Your Skin.  Make sure to be put on sun block as well as a hat or visor to protect your face.Even on cloudy days the sun can be harmful.
  6. If you tend to sweat heavily try adding some salt to your food before your round.  This will help in the loss of sodium through sweat.
  7. Take your time.  Although we want to keep pace on the golf course do your best to not rush around and put an unnecessary stress on your body.

These are just a few tips that will not only prevent dehydration but will help improve your stamina and energy while on the golf course.  If while you are out there you start to feel dizzy, weak, nauseous or begin to have headaches please seek shade or air conditioning as soon as possible.
Thank you for playing out at Walkabout and we hope to see you soon.
